At least 19 people lost their lives and dozens sustained severe injuries after a dumper truck driver, reportedly intoxicated, went on a five-kilometre rampage through Jaipur’s Lohamandi Road on Monday, officials confirmed.

According to eyewitness accounts, the driver — suspected to be drunk — was speeding recklessly for nearly five kilometres, crashing into multiple vehicles, including cars and motorcycles, before being stopped. Several two-wheelers and cars were left severely damaged along the route.

Authorities said the driver appeared heavily under the influence of alcohol and continued to drive despite repeated collisions, crushing vehicles and causing chaos on the busy stretch. The police have taken the accused into custody and are conducting medical tests to verify alcohol consumption.

All injured victims have been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, while officials are working to identify the deceased.

The horrific incident occurred just a day after another tragic crash in Rajasthan’s Phalodi, where a tempo traveller carrying devotees collided with a parked trailer truck, leaving at least 15 people dead and two others injured. Police stated that the victims were residents of Jodhpur’s Sursagar area and were returning from Bikaner’s Kolayat temple after offering prayers at the Kapil Muni Ashram.

Expressing deep sorrow over the Jaipur tragedy, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical aid for the injured and provide full support to the families of the deceased.
